What a busy and eventful December!

Chloe and Sophie put up the decorations at end of November making the lounge and bar look very cosy and festive with red baubles and flashing fairy lights. Chloe and her fairy lights ...oh, how she loves them. The trees in the bar and the Lakeside look a picture too and have heped us all get in the mood for the party season. We kicked off with a murder mystery dinner followed by disco on 3rd December. It was a great success as shown by the following review left on Eat Out Somerset :

'Hornsbury Mill just outside Chard must be the best place to eat in Somerset. You could not find a warmer welcome or more helpful staff so even before you sit down you are enjoying the experience. The selection of food is excellent and all cooked to perfection. Our party had a wide variety all served on time, piping hot and the taste was to die for. I shall definitely be going back.'

We have also hosted four weddings, several private christmas parties, a further murder mystery with disco and our annual Sing a Long - another rip-roaring success with 89 senior citizens coming for a two course Xmas lunch followed by carols and christmas songs. The party atmosphere was great with many guests singing, swaying and getting up to dance in the aisles!!

This last week the topic of conversation has been the weather.... and the snow! A hairy moment or two, but our spirits cannot be dampened. The weddings went off very well, although an anxious time beforehand when we did not know if the Registrars would turn up, but they did... and then no vegetables had been delivered for the wedding breakfast on Saturday - but Chef is very resourceful. Minor crises, but all overcome and the brides and grooms having made their vows are now Mr and Mrs and celebrated into the night with their families and friends.

And with one more week to go until Christmas day we are still offering a very festive menu in the restaurant - including a full traditional turkey dinner. I suggest everyone should taste one of Chef's homemade Christmas puds - a real gastronomic experience.

We pull down the shutters and batten down the hatches at 4pm on Christmas Eve and will enjoy a few days to ourselves - just us and the ducks - before the New Year painting and decorating begins. We open once again for guests on 10th January 2011 for what we hope will be another exciting year.
Meanwhile, we wish you all the merriest of Christmas times and a very bright and happy New Year.
